Race to Feed Frederick fuels hunger-free weekends for 3,400 local kids
FREDERICK, Md. — Race to Feed Frederick 2026 brought the community together for a high-energy day of service and impact, packing 5,000 bags of food to help ensure local children have food for the weekend.
Hosted by Blessings in a Backpack Frederick Chapter, the annual event welcomed 15 teams and more than 75 volunteers, all working side by side in a fast-paced packing competition designed to support kids across Frederick County.
This year’s event marked significant growth. Compared to 2025, Race to Feed Frederick doubled the number of participating teams and bags packed, while nearly doubling net revenue—demonstrating the community’s continued commitment to supporting children.
In addition to the hands-on packing effort, more than $40,000 in donated food was used to fill bags that will go directly to students in need. Because of this collective effort, 3,400 children in Frederick County will head into the weekend with the nutrition they need to return to school on Monday ready to learn.
DARCARS Toyota of Frederick served as the presenting sponsor for the event, with additional support from ZeeZees and Sysco, whose partnership helped make the day possible.
Catoctin Ridge Wealth Partners took home top honors in this year’s competition, earning first place among participating teams.
While the competition brought excitement, the true impact of Race to Feed Frederick goes far beyond the finish line. Each bag packed represents a child who can focus on learning and growing, supported by a community that shows up when it matters most.
Blessings in a Backpack extends its gratitude to every volunteer, team, and partner who contributed to the success of this year’s event and helped make hunger-free weekends possible for children across Frederick County.
